As a delivery captain I'm constantly amazed at the undersize and poor quantity of the fenders I find on my delivery client's yachts. That is why I carry an assoctment of large inflatable fenders in my equipment bag. For years I used Saturn and AERE fenders. They are both excellent fender manufacturers. It was not until I came across Fendertex that I found a superior product. My previous fenders would last a delivery season or two before the ring would tear away from the body of the fender, rendering them useless. What drew me to Fendertex was their dual strap stainless steel D-rings attached to a rigid reinforced fender collar. This feature solved my ring tear-away issue. So why is this important? My delivery schedule has me transiting hundreds of locks in a season, from small river locks to locks on the Welland Canal. The pressure applied to the fender and D-rings is especially high when locking upward.
I've had my Fendertex fenders for 18 months. They are incredibly light weight and being made from a incredibly durable textile fabric, as opposed to the elastomerics used by other inflatable manufacturers, allows me to roll and pack 3 large fenders, along with a portable pump, in a small duffel bag.
I recently completed a Miami to Chicago delivery (by way of the Western River System) on a 62' boat. The Fendertex fenders performed beautifully. Once home I power washed the covers, let dry and packed them away for my next trip.
You may be curious what fenders were on the client's boat? Three medium size PVC fenders....
