Keep Your Propeller in Peak Condition

At Max-Prop, we prioritize the efficiency and reliability of our propellers, emphasizing the importance of regular maintenance. Here’s how you can keep your propeller in top condition:

Greasing is Key:

To ensure the longevity of your Max-Prop propeller, it is crucial to grease it at least once annually. For those using their vessels full time, particularly in warmer waters, more frequent greasing is recommended. PYI advises using Lubriplate model 130AA grease, a calcium-based lubricant with an NLGI consistency rating of 1. Propellers manufactured after 1990 are equipped with a grease zerc fitting, allowing for easy application whether the boat is in or out of water.

Don’t Forget the Sacrificial Anodes:

Sacrificial anodes play a vital role in protecting your propeller from corrosion. To maintain optimal protection, consider the following:

• Replace sacrificial anodes annually, even if they appear to be in good condition, to ensure proactive corrosion prevention.
• If possible, add a shaft anode to enhance protection for both the propeller and shaft.
• When installing new anodes, clean the contact surfaces thoroughly to establish effective electrical contact and ensure comprehensive protection.
