We have all heard horror stories of boats sinking when a coupling breaks and the shaft is ripped out of the boat. PYI has a simple solution to assist in keeping the shaft in the boat.

The PYI Shaft Retention Collar is designed to help retain the Propeller or Rudder shaft in your vessel in the event of catastrophic failure of the coupling or if the shaft comes free from the coupling. The double split design provides the maximum in axial holding power with the benefit of quick and efficient assembly with the shaft installed.

Design fully engages the shaft without marring. Easily installed where major disassembly would otherwise be required. Greater axial holding power than set screw or one-piece clamping collars. Effective on hard and soft shafts.

Very simple to retrofit to existing prop shafts and rudder shafts. A cost effective and quick solution that could save thousands.

This should be standard on all seals, not just pro models

I have a PSS Type A seal on my three year old boat. Recently, after running for about 30 minutes, my bilge alarm went off. Opening the engine room hatch, I found the engine room flooded. Searching for the leak, I found that the dripless shaft seal was letting water in, lots of water, especially when powered up. With the engine in neutral, the bilge pumps were able to bring the water level down and I was able to avoid disaster. The set screws had loosened and the shaft rotor had slid forward allowing water in. Seems that there should be something more than a couple set screws on a spinning, vibrating piece of machinery to keep your boat from sinking. This collar should provide needed backup and should be standard equipment on all seals, not just the pro models.

Great Shaft Collar

Normally, a shaft collar is nothing to get too exited about. When we first put out Rescue Minor into service, we put a steel collar on the rudder shaft. The rudder shaft seal was damaged and water was getting into the boat and soaking the collar. I had to cut the collar off the shaft when we replaced the seal. I found the stainless shaft collar on PYI and ordered it. The collar arrived a couple days later and it was a perfect fit on the 3/4" shaft! The right part, promptly! Way to go PYI!

Shaft Retention Collar

I have not installed yet, but needed it as the PYI collar on my Dripless has two inside screws stripped and I am worried about failure. Although I was looking for the large end collar, this retention collar was all I could find a price on. I currently am supporting the shaft collar with a zinc and stainless hose clamp as a backup in the event the original collar slips.
